The RRS steering group is a dedicated team of pupils, teachers, TAs, governors and parents. We aim to promote an understanding of the UNCRC rights of the child within the SJSJ community. The group as a whole aims to promote a mutual respect between children and adults as well as develop an increased awareness of global issues. The steering group children (children from Years 1 to 6) meet fortnightly to discuss how to promote the rights in our school.
So far this year, the RRS ambassadors have created and launched the Rights Respecting stickers which they hand out daily in the playground to children showing respect for article 31, our right to relax and play. They have also organised Children in Need, which was a great success, and will be closely working with a representative from WE over the next term, focusing on issues in the local area they wish to make an impact on.
At SJSJ, our focus rights are:
Article 12 – Every Child has the right to give your opinion and for an adult to listen and take it seriously.
Article 14 – Every child has the right to choose their own religion and beliefs.
Article 19 – Every child has the right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated, in body or in mind.
Article 24 – Every child has the right to the best health care possible, safe water to
drink, nutritious food and a clean and safe environment.
Article 28 – Every child has the right to a good quality education.
Article 29 – Every child has the right to use and develop their talents and abilities.
Article 31 – Every child has the right to relax, rest and play.
