SJSJ Padlet
Hackney has a range of services and activities to support all children, particularly those with SEND, in and out of term time. Navigating the support can sometimes be overwhelming and difficult to find the right service at the right time.
Please follow the link below to the St John and St James SEND Padlet which is regularly refreshed with a huge variety of services and information. This ranges from parent groups, to advice lines to strategies you can use at home to support communication. Please follow the links available and it will direct you to the appropriate website.
Please note that whilst some services are for children with SEND, there are a wide range of support networks on the padlet available for all children and families.
If you know of any services which are not listed on the padlet, please let the office or Mr Watson know and we will update it.
Celebrating Our Community – Multicultural Evening
Last Friday, we were delighted to once again open our gates to the school community for our annual Multicultural Evening. It is always such a pleasure to come together and celebrate the rich diversity that makes our school so special. The evening was filled with colour, music, delicious food, and the wonderful spirit of togetherness.
A heartfelt thank you to all the children, parents, and carers who attended and supported the event—your enthusiasm and involvement made the evening truly memorable. We are also incredibly grateful to our dedicated staff, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to plan the event and run the stalls throughout the event.
We’re thrilled to share that all money raised will go directly towards enhancing the educational offer for our children here at St John and St James; helping us to continue providing meaningful and enriching experiences for all.
Congratulations to all of our prize winners—from the fabulous fashion show, to the ever-popular “guess the number of sweets in the jar” competition, and of course, our wonderful raffle! A big thank you again to everyone who generously donated prizes and supported these activities.
It was a joyful reminder of the strength and unity in our diverse school community. Thank you once again to everyone who helped make it such a special evening.
Violin and Cello Assembly
On Monday, the school was treated to a wonderful performance from the children who take part in our violin and cello lessons, kindly funded by Apollo Music.
It was a real delight to see and hear how much progress all of the children have made since they began their musical journey. They played beautifully, were an absolute pleasure to listen to, and should all be incredibly proud of themselves—what a fantastic achievement!
We would also like to say a huge congratulations to Hawwaa, Sparrow, Jack, and Braymil, who performed brilliantly as they come to the end of their bursaries with us, due to moving on to secondary school. We wish them every success in the next stage of their musical and academic journeys.
A special thank you must go to Susan, who teaches the children each week. Her hard work, dedication, and continued support have been instrumental in helping our young musicians grow in both skill and confidence.
Well done, everyone!
Green Team Gardening
This week, the Green Team have been helping Mr Bartek with some gardening. They helped to pull out weeds and make space for new plants to grow. They loved doing this in the sunshine!
Look What We Achieved Together!
A huge thank you to all the parents, carers, and volunteers who’ve supported the PTA this year. Your time, donations and enthusiasm have helped us raise an incredible £3,300 so far!
Thanks to your support, we ran:
8 Bake Sales
4 Book Stalls
The Christmas Fayre
Carol Singing
The Green Week Plant Sale
Sponsored Winkworth Boards
And we’ve been able to fund:
African drumming workshops for Black History Month
A Green Week workshop
The Easter Scavenger Hunt
School trips, new playground equipment, computer upgrades, and even solar panels!
Want to get involved next year?
The PTA very much depends on more volunteers participating. We’d love to welcome new faces. No experience needed, just enthusiasm! Even a little help makes a big difference.

Important Notice Regarding Attendance and Medical Appointments
At SJSJ, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil has the best possible chance to achieve their full academic potential. Regular attendance and punctuality is a vital part of this, and as such, all pupils are expected to maintain an attendance rate of 95% or above.
Where attendance falls below this threshold, it will be subject to close monitoring, and appropriate action may be taken in accordance with the school’s attendance policy and statutory guidance. We greatly appreciate the cooperation of all parents and carers in supporting excellent attendance and punctuality.
Medical Appointments
In order to minimise disruption to learning, we kindly request that all medical appointments are scheduled outside of school hours wherever possible.
If an appointment during school hours cannot be avoided, parents and carers are required to provide official proof of the appointment (e.g. appointment card, letter, text or email confirmation) for the absence to be authorised.
Punctuality and Legal Responsibilities Regarding Lateness – Did You Know you can be fined for persistent lateness
Parents and carers have a legal responsibility to ensure that their child/ren attends school regularly and arrives on time each day. Persistent lateness constitutes a failure to meet this legal obligation and may result in formal action being taken.
In cases of ongoing or repeated lateness, the school may refer the matter for the issue of a Penalty Notice in accordance with local authority procedures. This may result in a fine of £80 per parent, per family, for failure to ensure regular and punctual attendance.
We strongly urge all parents to make every effort to ensure their child arrives at school on time to avoid disruption to their education and potential legal action.
We thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain high standards of attendance and ensuring the best educational outcomes for all pupils.
Hot Weather
Next week, temperatures are set to rise considerably; please ensure that all children come to school with a water bottle and a hat – there will be no need for jumpers and coats.
Sun cream must be applied before coming to school, we will not be able to assist with this during the day.
Late Collection Charges
We would like to remind all families that a late collection charge of £5 for every 5 minutes will be applied if a child is not collected promptly at the end of the school day or from after-school clubs.
Please ensure that you are collecting your child on time to avoid any additional charges.
We also kindly ask that you check your ParentPay account regularly and clear any outstanding balances as soon as possible.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.
Spiritual Corner
This week in our spiritual corner, we focused on making compliment cards for people that were special to us and those we felt needed more help in boosting their confidence.
Our word of the week was humility, and the children had to think of ways they had to show humility, with a focus on other people and people we find special to us.
We then had some reflection time and discussed what humility meant and how we can show humility in other areas of our lives. We then said a prayer asking God to help be more humble in our day and day lives.
