SJSJ prides itself as a rights-respecting school as every child is valued, heard, and has an understanding of their rights within and out of school. The RRS Ambassadors are a group of driven, bold, and compassionate children from each year group who have been selected by their peers to be RRS representatives for the school. These children care about the rights of each child and will work closely with Miss Bah to generate ways we can support the children in our school by understanding and exercising their rights. This team will ensure that pupils are recognised when they are seen exercising their rights through receiving rights respecting awards. They will also ensure that all pupils take part in charity events and take pride in supporting the wider community through celebrated days like Children in Need and Red Nose Day. Our RRS Ambassadors understand the importance of community and will strive to keep good relations with the local community and continue supporting other children and families.

Our Student Government consists of two children from each class who are elected by their peers. They will be canvasing options on a number of important topics throughout our school community. Every child will have the opportunity to contribute through voting during class council sessions. The counsellor’s are always looking for ways to improve our school and our local community. Keep an eye on our weekly newsletter for updates from our Student Government and their campaigns across the year.

Reducing our carbon footprint both in our school and across the local community is vital at SJSJ. The Green Team are a group of motivated, passionate children from each year group, carefully selected by their peers to be representatives. These children have a keen interest in protecting their environment and will work with Miss Gedney to generate ideas on how we can be more sustainable. We are a proactive team that will ensure our ideas are implemented throughout the school to reduce our carbon footprint. The future of our planet is at heart of the Green Team and we are determined to ensure SJSJ continues to be an eco friendly school.

Digital literacy is a key skill that all children at SJSJ develop throughout their time here. As an elected digital leader you will help to support the development of digital literacy across the school. Through supporting classmates with using coding software to helping promote use of processing software across the year groups. Digital leaders are key members of the school community that are able to highlight the importance of being responsible online users. This is done by running workshops and competitions about online safety across the year as well as conducting surveys to assess the use of devices across the school. Digital leaders also support the use of digital equipment across the school, ensuring that iPads and laptops are used correctly and respectfully.

Being active and perusing the best versions of ourselves is a massive part of the SJSJ way. The Sports Crews are a group of children from each year group who have been selected by their peers. All Sports Crew members are great at engaging with their peers to find out how best they would like to stay active and encouraging them to try something new. Through feedback and discussion at Sports Crew meetings they are able to create intra-school competitions, plan lunch time activities and whole school challenges to increase engagement and pupil led activities. This team understands the importance of inclusion and endeavours to find new ways to ensure that all pupils at St John & St James are active, included and valued.

Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at SJSJ and we strive to ensure that all children feel safe and happy. The Wellbeing Warriors are a group of compassionate, empathetic children from each year group who have been selected by their peers to be wellbeing representatives for the school. These children care about the wellbeing of others and will work closely with Miss Khaleel to generate ways we can support the children in our school with their mental health. This team will ensure that pupils are talking about their feelings through the zones of regulation, discuss ways we can self-regulate and ensure that wellbeing remains top of everyone’s priority at St John and St James.

Miss Thomson is passionate about instilling a love of literature and thirst for writing within SJSJ. The Blog Squad consists of a group of passionate, emphatic writers who wish to write for pleasure outside of their scheduled writing lessons. It aims to give children a true purpose and audience for their writing, with The Blog Squad providing updates for the school community about key events and the day-to-day running of the school. The Blog Squad will work closely with Miss Thomson to generate ideas for the School Blog, plan and write posts and even take pictures to be shared on the School Blog. This will be delivered through a safe, child-friendly online blog which will then be shared frequently with the school community. We know this will create an engaged community of writers at SJSJ and will promote writing as a fun and exciting extra-curricular activity.
