Christmas is coming!
Christmas is fast approaching and there are lots of festive activities coming up for the children in the next few weeks, such as:
Wednesday 13th December: Christmas Jumper Day
Wednesday 13th December: Christmas lunch for all children
Monday 18th December: Hobgoblin Panto for the whole school to enjoy
Tuesday 19th December: Santa visit for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
Tuesday 19th December: Christmas Disco for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
Wednesday 20th December: Christmas Performance at church – all parents welcome.
KS2 Christmas Disco
On Tuesday 19th December, Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will have their annual Christmas disco. All children are invited to wear their ‘party clothes’ for the afternoon but must come to school wearing their school uniform. Children will then have time to change after lunch before the big event!
Party bags, which will contain some snacks, can be purchased in advance at the school office. This cost 50p per child and all children who have purchased one will receive it as they arrive at the hall. This must be paid via the school office so that children are not carrying money around. Please can we ask for all payments to be made no later than Friday 15th December so we can ensure we have purchased the correct amount.
If you have any questions, please just come and ask!
We know the children are very much looking forward to it.
Senior Christmas Lunch
The Rights Respecting Ambassadors hosted a seniors Christmas Lunch at school. We invited our guests to enjoy a specially prepared roast dinner followed by a trio of desserts.
Everyone had fun taking part in a Christmas quiz and sang Christmas carols. They were also treated to a special solo by Connie in Year 5. A great time was had by all…
Christmas Chandeliers
Last week, the children across the school were extremely busy creating their Christmas Chandeliers for the school hall. They look absolutely beautiful and it was a pleasure seeing the children so excited to spot their creations when eating their lunch!
PTA Christmas Fayre
Last Friday, the PTA hosted our first Christmas Fayre for an extremely long time and what a joyous occasion it was! It was incredible to see the school community come together to celebrate the festive period and all of the children had a wonderful time. Christmas is all about togetherness and the PTA executed this meaning beautifully. Thank you to everyone who supported in putting on such a wonderful event and to all of the parents who volunteered on the night, sent in donations, created events for the children to complete and above all, put a smile on the faces of our wonderful children. Thank you to the PTA for such a successful evening. We’re already starting to put plans in place for next year!
Thank you
We wanted to thank you all for your many kind and generous contributions to, and your participation in, the Christmas Fayre.
The children had a blast, doing face and nail painting, cookie decoration, arts and craft, games etc. while the parents could meet and chat around mulled wine or squash (or get their nails or face painted).
The Fayre and the raffle (with more than 70 prizes up for grabs and 1340 tickets sold) allowed us to raise an amazing £1975. The full list of prizes and winners is available on request.
We have also received an additional £800 thanks to those who have kindly hosted a signboard as part of the Winkworth Estate Agent sponsorship.
Thanks to the Usborne book sale, the school will receive £110 worth of free books.
The next book sale will be organised around World Book Day. We are aiming for a sales target of £600 so that the school can receive 60% of that amount in free books.
The PTA also would like to thank E&J Cleaning for their generous donation of £1000.
This money has allowed us to buy Christmas crackers for the school’s Christmas dinner. It will also be used to buy sports kit for inter-school competitions and to renew the school’s IT suite to make sure our children continue to go online safely.
If you want to know more about the PTA, email stjohnandstjamespta@gmail.com or ask a PTA member.
Thank you again and looking forward to seeing you at our next event

We will be on the concourse at the top of the steps leading to the Overground. We hope you can join us. You do not have to be a brilliant singer. Just bring your Christmas spirit! The more the merrier!
Please let us know if you are free to come along so we can keep you updated with the arrangements by emailing stjohnandstjamespta@gmail.com.
Come and join in the fun! Everybody welcome.

MHST Coffee Afternoon
On Tuesday 19th December at 3.00pm, Olivia from the MHST team will be hosting a Coffee Afternoon.

This will also be a great opportunity to discuss any concerns you currently have around your child’s mental health and wellbeing.
Reception Writing Sample
This week in Reception we have gone to space! Through our core text Astro Girl by Ken Max-Wilson we have been inspired to learn about astronauts, how things are in space compared to earth and do character studies of the people in the story. We’ve used these to inspire our writing.
