Green Team
This month is Walk To School October, where children are encouraged to take active journeys to school.
To celebrate Walk to School Month, the Green Team are encouraging everyone to make an active journey to school at least once a week.
This can include walking, cycling, riding a scooter and getting off the bus or out of the car a little earlier.
Not only does this reduce our carbon footprint, but it is a great way to start our day!
At the end of the month, we will be giving out badges to those who have made a huge effort to make an active journey to school every week.

Hackney Speakers Young Comedian Competition
“Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.”
Victor Hugo
Hackney Speaker Cllr Anya Sizer, as part of the 2023-24 Speaker’s year, is looking to find Hackney’s young comic of the year. The winners will be invited to perform their pieces, alongside other spectacular local acts, in front of an audience in one of the UK’s last original music halls, Hackney’s very own Hoxton Hall, on 8 February 2024 in an exclusive, one off variety show featuring wellbeing and mental health, for an evening of fun and laughter. Winning prizes will be tickets to the show and amazon vouchers. Comedy categories are 6-11 year olds, 12-18 year olds and 19-25 year olds. SEND applicants are very welcome, please indicate this upon application. There will be three winners in each category.
“With so many cares and concerns for Hackney’s young people we need laughter and comedy now more than ever to bring us together, raise spirits and spread some joy. We are reaching out to all young people in the borough to share their best jokes, comic acts or songs that will raise a smile or even a belly laugh.
Hackney has a proud history of the arts as a beacon for hope, and we are calling on that same spirit again to showcase the warmth and humour of this wonderful borough. Please get in touch by sending your entries to the Speakers office.
Harvest Festival Food Donation Appeal 2023
Harvest Festival is being celebrated throughout the month of October, where farmers and growers give thanks for a successful harvest season and churches, community groups, schools and individuals give to those who are less fortunate.
Harvest season makes a real difference to families by collecting food from local schools and delivering it to those who need it most. This year we are asking all parents and carers to donate food items to support this cause.
Which items can be donated?
Please donate any of the following items to support local charities:
– Tinned food or spreads
– Long-life milk, juice and drinks
– Dried pasta
– Cooking sauces
– Condiments
– Tea and coffee
– Rice
– Cereal
– Toiletries
All items can be dropped off at the main school office.
Family Coach Parent Empowerment Group
Beginning on 10th November for 6 weeks, the Family Coach service will be holding a parent group which will focus on increasing confidence and reducing stress as a parent. This aims to provide parents with strategies and tools to reduce stress but also provide a supportive group in which to share your concerns.
Spaces are limited, so if you would like to sign up or have any questions, please email the Family Coach service directly at
familycoach@hackney.gov.uk or speak to Mr Watson.
Secondary School Applications
All parents/carers of children currently in Year 6 will need to complete their secondary school application by 31st October 2023.
To support you with making your decisions, each secondary school in the borough will run open evening sessions which you are encouraged to attend. Please see below the information for these events.
As always, if you would like any support with the admissions process, please make an appointment with Miss Khaleel who is more than happy to help!
