This week, our amazing Year 6 children wowed us all with their performance of Moana – and what a show it was! From the opening scene to the final song, they lit up the stage with their talent, energy, and joy – it was clear just how happy and excited they were to perform! Their smiles, singing, dancing, and acting showed how much they have loved working together to bring the story to life.
We were so impressed by the bravery every single child showed, especially those with speaking and singing parts. Standing up in front of a big audience takes a lot of courage, and they did it with confidence and pride.
Just like Moana’s journey across the ocean, Year 6 have taken their own journey through primary school. Along the way, they’ve shown bravery, resilience, and determination – and they’ve grown so much. Moana didn’t know how far she’d go, but we know exactly where Year 6 are heading: to even greater adventures and achievements.
We are all so proud of you, Year 6. You’ve made memories that will last a lifetime and we hope you’ll always look back at SJSJ with smiles on your faces.
The Summer Activities Guide 2025 is out now, with free and low-cost activities for 0-19 year olds (25 with SEND) from providers across Hackney. This year, Young Hackney will be releasing the guide exclusively online, which is available below.

The Great Hackney Libraries Quest – Hackney’s very own answer to the Summer Reading Challenge – is back with a bang this summer with the theme: Let’s Play! Children and young people of all ages can register and take part at any Hackney Library, and collect a stamper booklet.
Last week, we held our annual Sports Day at London Fields—and what a day it was! Despite the rising temperatures, the energy, spirit, and determination of our children shone through from start to finish. A huge thank you to all the families and carers who came along to cheer the children on; your support helped create a special atmosphere.
It was a wonderful way to bring our school community together and to celebrate the sporting achievements of our pupils. We are incredibly proud of every single child—not just for their physical efforts, but for the sportsmanship, encouragement, and maturity they showed throughout the day.
A special thank you goes to Mr Charles for his hard work, enthusiasm, and tireless efforts in organising such a smooth and inspiring event. His passion for sport and for helping our children be the very best they can be was evident in every detail. The talent we witnessed on the field is a clear reflection of the dedication and encouragement he gives our pupils every day—thank you, Mr Charles!
A personal highlight of mine was watching the Year 6 girls come together in a team hug before the sprint finals and seeing the boys shake each other’s hands with genuine respect. Moments like these remind us that beyond the medals and races, it’s the values of friendship, teamwork, and kindness that truly matter.
To all our young athletes: we are so proud of you. You are all winners in our eyes!
