Welcome to the January blog! We hope you had a great half term. This month, Years 6, 4 and 3 visited Forest School, and the Year 6 Green Team shared some great sustainability tips. We also learned about Anne Frank in History.
Forest School Experiences
Years 3, 4 and 6 had an exciting time at Forest School.
Andrea and Noah from Year 6 said it was an environmentally friendly area and a great place for animals.
Mary from Year 4 enjoyed having her science lesson outdoors. The children made tables using sticks as part of their insulation lesson, and Aidan said everyone had a really enjoyable time.
Sustainable Advice from the Green Team
The Year 6 Green Team shared some creative ways to be more sustainable.
One idea is to use compost. Leftover food can be placed in a food waste bin and turned into compost. To make homemade compost, you need food scraps, sticks and water.
Another helpful tip is to use food waste bins as much as possible instead of regular bins.
Anne Frank Learning in History
Year 6 took part in a workshop about Anne Frank, where they created artwork or pieces of writing.
Anne Frank was a Jewish girl born on 12 June 1929. When she was four, her family moved from Germany to Amsterdam. At the age of 13, she received a diary. During World War II, Anne and her family hid in a secret annex behind a bookshelf in her father Otto’s old business. They lived there for two years with others, hiding from the Nazis.
In 1944, they were discovered and sent to concentration camps, where the family was separated. Anne and her sister Margot sadly died of illness. Her father later found her diary and had it published as a book.
Poem by Gabby
There once was a girl born on the 12th,
Who wrote her thoughts down every day.
At 13 she hid for two long years,
With danger never far away.
Many people suffered in that time,
And Anne grew ill and sadly died,
But through her words and diary,
Her voice will always live on.
That’s our blog for this month. Thanks for reading!
