Green Team
The Green Team would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our Second Hand Sale.
It was fantastic to see how many preloved items now have new homes! The Green Team thoroughly enjoyed encouraging the local community to recycle and reuse items!
School Uniform
Jewellery
Parents/Carers are reminded that children should not be wearing any jewellery to school. If your child has pierced ears, small studs may be worn.
Nail polish
No child should be wearing nail varnish in school. If you have attended an event and your child has been wearing nail varnish this should be removed before they come back to school.
Footwear
There have been increasingly more children wearing bright coloured trainers to school. You are reminded we have a uniform policy and the correct footwear is black shoes or trainers.
Parents Evening
We are pleased to announce that our first parents evening this year is on Monday 9th October 2023 from 2-7pm in the school hall.
This is a great opportunity for you to meet your child’s class teacher, hear and see what your child has been learning in class and discuss your child’s next steps.
All teachers will have their sign up sheets with them at the end of each day, starting on Monday, so please speak to them about booking an appointment.
If your child attends after school clubs on a daily basis, then please call the office on 02089852045 and the office team will book an appointment for you.
Thank you
Harvest Festival Food Donation Appeal 2023
Harvest Festival is being celebrated throughout the month of October, where farmers and growers give thanks for a successful harvest season and churches, community groups, schools and individuals give to those who are less fortunate.
Harvest season makes a real difference to families by collecting food from local schools and delivering it to those who need it most. This year we are asking all parents and carers to donate food items to support this cause.
Which items can be donated?
Please donate any of the following items to support local charities:
– Tinned food or spreads
– Long-life milk, juice and drinks
– Dried pasta
– Cooking sauces
– Condiments
– Tea and coffee
– Rice
– Cereal
– Toiletries
All items can be dropped off at the main school office.
Family Coach Parent Empowerment Group
Beginning on 10th November for 6 weeks, the Family Coach service will be holding a parent group which will focus on increasing confidence and reducing stress as a parent. This aims to provide parents with strategies and tools to reduce stress but also provide a supportive group in which to share your concerns.
Spaces are limited, so if you would like to sign up or have any questions, please email the Family Coach service directly at
familycoach@hackney.gov.uk or speak to Mr Watson.
Art Competition
To celebrate the start of the new school year, we are running an art competition on the theme ‘What SJSJ Means To Me’. You can create an artwork in any medium (colouring pencils, felt tips, crayons, paints, collage etc.) showcasing what our school community means to you. To be in with a chance of winning the top prize, you must ensure your piece of art;
- Is A4 landscape
- Includes the St John and St James logo
- Includes a key word
If you do not have art materials at home, there will be an opportunity during a lunchtime this half-term for you to make your masterpiece.
Please return your artwork to Miss Farrington or your class teacher by Friday 13th October.
Secondary School Applications
All parents/carers of children currently in Year 6 will need to complete their secondary school application by 31st October 2023.
To support you with making your decisions, each secondary school in the borough will run open evening sessions which you are encouraged to attend. Please see below the information for these events.
As always, if you would like any support with the admissions process, please make an appointment with Miss Khaleel who is more than happy to help!
