Parents Evening
We are pleased to announce that our first parents evening this year is on Monday 9th October 2023 from 2-7pm in the school hall.
This is a great opportunity for you to meet your child’s class teacher, hear and see what your child has been learning in class and discuss your child’s next steps.
All teachers will have their sign up sheets with them at the end of each day, starting on Monday, so please speak to them about booking an appointment.
If your child attends after school clubs on a daily basis, then please call the office on 02089852045 and the office team will book an appointment for you.
Thank you
Term Dates
The school will be closed for all pupils on Monday 30th October 2023 for an INSET.
SeeSaw
What is Seesaw?
Seesaw is a multimedia journal that empowers students to share what they are learning at school. Each teacher creates an online classroom where they can post photos, videos, reminders or activities for parents to see. Throughout the school year, Seesaw builds an organised, digital portfolio of the children’s learning, accessible by the teacher, child and parent. This means that science experiments, music performances, artwork, STEAM learning, writing samples, maths strategies etc can be shared and enjoyed by all. Seesaw keeps parents updated by providing them with a real-time glimpse into their child’s school day. Parents can praise their children for their achievements and, by knowing what they have achieved throughout the day, use what they see on Seesaw as a conversation starter at the end of the day.
Why do we use Seesaw at St John and St James?
At SJSJ, we value our school community and recognise the importance of parental involvement. We want our children to thrive and be celebrated for their achievements. Seesaw enables us to enhance our communication between teachers and parents, and provides parents with a clear understanding of what their children are learning in school.
How safe and private is Seesaw?
All student contact is secure and protected and data is never shared with third parties. Protecting student privacy is fundamental in Seesaw’s mission and business. They state that they truly value the trust that schools and families place in them. Here are Seesaw’s promises:
- They will never sell your data or student data
- They never advertise within the app
- They do not own the content uploaded
- Student work is private to the classroom by default
- They are compliant with FERPA, COPPA and GDPR
Parents and carers only have access to their own child’s learning journal.
If you have any questions, or would like to find out more information, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Second Hand September
Next Friday, we will be holding a second hand sale to reuse and recycle items we no longer use as part of Second Hand September.
If you have any toys, books, clothes or arts and crafts that you would like to donate, please bring them to the main office by Thursday 28th September.
If you are donating clothes, it would be fantastic if you could put them in bags with the size on it.
Thank you!
Art Competition
To celebrate the start of the new school year, we are running an art competition on the theme ‘What SJSJ Means To Me’. You can create an artwork in any medium (colouring pencils, felt tips, crayons, paints, collage etc.) showcasing what our school community means to you. To be in with a chance of winning the top prize, you must ensure your piece of art;
- Is A4 landscape
- Includes the St John and St James logo
- Includes a key word
If you do not have art materials at home, there will be an opportunity during a lunchtime this half-term for you to make your masterpiece.
Please return your artwork to Miss Farrington or your class teacher by Friday 13th October.
Year 3 Writing
For our first writing piece, Year 3 wrote a diary entry from the perspective of a young boy, who had fallen into The Stone Age!
Immediately, I felt as though I was about to faint. As I gazed around, I saw rough, rocky boulders. Quickly, I clambered to my feet and climbed towards the light. All around me, I saw hills as large as giants – Vera
I can’t quite believe what has happened to me! I was just quietly strolling along in the deep, peaceful woods when suddenly, I was consumed by the ground. Not long after, I mysteriously woke up in an abnormal place – Kenzo
Secondary School Applications
All parents/carers of children currently in Year 6 will need to complete their secondary school application by 31st October 2023.
