From start to finish, the children were exceptional. They demonstrated determination, perseverance and energy, rising to the challenge with smiles, resilience and a strong sense of team spirit. Each step they took reflected their commitment and courage, and it was a pleasure to see them embrace such an opportunity.
Supported by staff and families, and cheered on by Miss Gladstone, Miss Rees and Miss Khaleel from the grandstand, the atmosphere was electric. Every child crossed the finish line, a fantastic achievement, and proudly received a medal as well as £10 for the school.
A sincere thank you must also go to Mr Watson, Miss Gedney and Mr McCullough, who spent their Saturday morning supporting the children — running alongside them in the heat, encouraging them throughout, and leading by example. Their care, commitment and enthusiasm made a real difference to the experience.
The day was made even more memorable when the children met Joe Wicks (even offering him some running advice ahead of his marathon with Daddy Pig!), some members of the Gladiators and were interviewed by the BBC with Sienna featuring on their Instagram page — moments they will no doubt remember for years to come.
We are immensely proud of every one of them. They represented SJSJ with such spirit and positivity, and we hope this is just the beginning… fingers crossed we are fortunate enough to take part again next year!

Bank Holiday Reminder
Please be reminded that Monday 4th May is a bank holiday, and therefore the school will be closed on this day.
We wish you all a wonderful long weekend and look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 5th May at the usual time.
This week in Reception, the children took on the exciting challenge of writing their own set of instructions on how to grow a plant. We began by thinking carefully about the different stages involved, and together we agreed on four clear steps to follow.
The children showed great enthusiasm as they planned and wrote their ideas, using their phonics knowledge to help them spell words independently. It was wonderful to see them applying their “special friends” sounds with growing confidence in their writing. I am incredibly proud of the effort and progress the children have made. Their creativity, independence, and developing writing skills really shone through in this activity- well done, Reception!
The theme for this years Neurodiversity Celebration Week is:
Be kind to different minds.
This theme was thought of by the Student Government and we will be working hard over the next few weeks to make sure the lessons the children are taught within the week are all around being kind to those around us.
We will be holding an assembly at 3.00 on Friday 22nd May to showcase all we have learned and we would love for all parents to attend so we can all finish the half term with a big celebration!
This is a gentle reminder that our After School Club finishes promptly at 5:00pm each day. If you wish to collect your child before 5:00pm, you must inform the school office in advance, so we can ensure your child is ready for collection. We have had an increase in parents arriving at different times between 4-5pm and this causing significant disruption.
For safeguarding reasons, we are unable to accommodate parents waiting in the school office until the club finishes. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for all our pupils.

A reminder that all parents and carers must remain in the playground during pick-up times and are not permitted to enter the school building. This is a key part of our safeguarding procedures and is essential to keeping all children safe.
Parents and carers may request to speak with their child’s teacher outside in the playground; however, this may not always be possible due to other commitments, such as staff training or scheduled meetings. In these cases, appointments should be arranged through the school office.
We appreciate your cooperation in supporting our safeguarding expectations and helping to ensure clear communication while maintaining a safe environment for all.
We would like to remind all parents and carers to please check ParentPay to ensure any outstanding balances are cleared. We understand that the festive period can be a costly time for families, and therefore reflected this in our extended payment deadline of 31st January for this term’s Breakfast Club, After School Club, and Wraparound Care.
If anyone needs support with accessing ParentPay, please come to the school office and speak to Miss Nifa, who will be happy to help.
