24 Apr What’s happening in Year 4 – Week 2
This week in Year 4, we had an exciting journey exploring the different climates of North America! We discovered that there are six main climate types across the continent and learned what makes each one unique, from icy cold regions to hot and dry areas. The children showed great curiosity as they discussed temperature, weather patterns, and the environments found in each climate, building a strong understanding of how location plays a key role in shaping weather around the world.
To help bring our learning to life, we got creative by drawing each climate and inventing fun, memorable actions to match them. This hands-on approach made learning both engaging and memorable, with lots of enthusiasm and teamwork on display. It was wonderful to see the children confidently sharing ideas, practising their actions, and supporting one another as they deepened their understanding.
We also had a thoughtful discussion about the equator and how it affects climate. The children were fascinated to learn that North America is quite far from the equator, which is why it does not experience a Mediterranean climate like some other regions. This helped them make important connections about how distance from the equator influences temperature and weather, and why climates can vary so much across the globe.
