We understand that you may occasionally have concerns about your child and/or their experience at school, and we want to ensure that these concerns are addressed in the best way possible as soon as they arise. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s learning, well-being, or any aspect of school life, we encourage you to first speak with your child’s class teacher; they are in the best position to support your child and provide insight into their day-to-day experience here.
If you feel that further discussion is needed, or if you would like to speak with someone at a senior level, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange a suitable time for a meeting with a member of our senior leadership team.

Red Nose Day will be on Friday 21st March and this year marks the 40 year anniversary of this very special charity. The theme this year will be ‘Whatever makes us Happy.’ The children can come dressed up as whichever character, theme, hero etc. that makes them happy. To wear a costume/outfit, children will need to bring in £2 to help us support this year’s event focus on supporting those in need during the current living crisis, focusing on issues like lack of food and homelessness.

We want to praise you for all the good things you have blessed us with this week. You have given us opportunities to enjoy our learning and learn about new facts that we have enjoyed sharing with others.
We know we are not perfect, and sometimes we make mistakes, yet you still love us. Help us to recognise when we have made a mistake and to be able to say sorry when we hurt others. Our neighbours deserve to be cared for and respected just as we would like to be respected.

The Importance of Punctuality: Every Minute Counts!
At SJSJ, we believe that arriving on time sets the tone for a successful day of learning. School starts promptly at 8:55am, and it is essential that all children arrive on time, ready to learn.
Being punctual helps children settle into their routine, reduces classroom disruptions, and ensures they do not miss important instructions at the start of the day. Arriving late can affect not only their learning, but also their confidence and social interactions.

Persistent lateness can lead to a referral being made to Hackney Education and a possible fine being issued.

What an exciting week of sport we’ve had! Our pupils have shown incredible skill, determination, and teamwork across multiple competitions.
Last Friday, our Year 6 girls secured 3rd place in the Berger International Women’s Day Tournament, the only school not to lose to the tournament winners. A fantastic achievement!
On Tuesday, our Year 3/4 girls’ A and B teams faced Morningside Primary, both putting in strong performances. A special mention to Chizaram in Year 3, who was outstanding in goal and had the confidence to step up and score a penalty! Huge thanks to former pupils Gabriella and Chelsy for coming back to support and help coach the team.
Wednesday saw our Year 4 boys and girls take part in the Hackney Futsal Competition. The boys had a strong start in a highly competitive event, winning 3 out of 5 games and scoring 12 goals. Special recognition goes to Tyrese in Year 3, who stepped up brilliantly to captain the team.
Our Year 4 girls were crowned champions, winning all 5 of their games unbeaten, scoring 11 goals and conceding none—an outstanding display of teamwork and skill!
A huge well done to all the pupils who have competed this week—you have represented our school with pride!
A parent recently asked if they could make a voluntary contribution towards these larger structures for our playground. If parents or carers would like to do so, as a school, we would be incredibly grateful. We have a target of £2500 to raise to ensure we make a safe, durable investment with long-term benefits.

We are excited to be developing a new water play area for our playgrounds for the summer months.
We are looking for donations of any water play equipment, including:
Water play tables
Buckets and watering cans
Floating toys (e.g. boats’ and ducks)
Funnels, tubes, and pipes
Scoops, ladles, and measuring cups
If you have any of the above items that you would be happy to donate, please bring them to the school office. Every contribution will help us create a fantastic, engaging space for the children to enjoy.

A big thank you to everyone that supported the PTA book and bake sale on March 7th!
We raised an amazing £242.00, bringing our total for the year to £342. This means we’ve already earned at least £100 in free books for our library!
We’re close to our goal! If we sell £250 worth of books, we will unlock £360 in free books for the school. Keep an eye out for the next book sale at Parents Evening on Wednesday 19th March!
Thank you to everyone who took part in the bake sale. We raised an amazing £185 for the students. The proceeds will go towards funding the play area, school library and towards the exciting class trips!

We are pleased to announce that the annual Hackney RE calendar competition has commenced for 2025-26. Last year, over 120 entries were received across the borough so thank you to all children who participated. The calendar is sent to every school in Hackney and is a celebration of Religion and Worldviews teaching and learning in our schools. It also includes important dates of upcoming religious festivals and secular commemorations which help us when planning assemblies and collective worship. It aims to support pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development beyond the RE classroom.
All the artwork is selected through a borough-wide poster competition, which is open to all pupils across KS1-KS3 in Hackney Schools. This year’s Religion and Worldviews theme is on ‘Festivals and Celebrations’. The entries can show religious and secular festivals and celebrations to reflect Hackney’s diverse communities.

Would you like to train to become a teacher? We are pleased to announce that a small number of paid Post-Graduate Teaching Apprenticeships will be available starting September 2025 within several Primary Advantage schools. All candidates must have a degree at 2:2 or above and GCSE passes in English, Maths and Science, by the time the training starts, plus experience of working in schools or strong transferrable skills from another career. Applications must be made via the DFE Apply for Teacher Training portal, and our apprenticeship vacancies will appear there from Monday 10 March, until 8am on Monday 24 March.
