14 Mar What’s happening in Reception – Week 3
To celebrate British Science Week, Reception have been investigating how humans can use light to help them stay safe. The children began by discussing the different things that they could do to keep themselves safe in a dark space, like on a winters night. Then we looked at a range of reflective items and noticed that light helps reflective materials to shine bright in the dark.
The children worked together to plan the investigation and then used their observation skills to talk about what they could see when they used a torch to shine light on different materials, that included tin foil, a mirror, felt and cardboard.
After the investigation, we sorted the materials into 2 categories: best and worse. We found that some materials like paper and plastic feel into the middle of these groups because they did reflective a little bit of light, but not enough to make sure that we are safe.
