Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2026: Be Kind to Different Minds
A reminder that next week will be celebrating Neurodiversity Celebration Week is “Be Kind to Different Minds.”
The children will be completing activities all week, with a special visit from Joseph (WAMHS) and Freya (SaLT) on Tuesday 19th May to learn all about what makes their brains unique.
To finish the week, all the children are invited to wear colourful non-uniform to showcase how unique they are. We will then come together at 3.00pm to celebrate the entire week in a SJSJ Government led assembly. All parents are welcome to join!
Please see some Year 6 posters for all the information!

Healthy Packed Lunch Reminder
As part of our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting children’s wellbeing, we would like to remind families about our healthy packed lunch expectations. This guidance also applies to packed lunches provided for school trips.
If your child brings a packed lunch to school or on a trip, please ensure it contains a healthy and balanced selection of food that will help them stay focused and energised throughout the day.
Packed lunches should include:

- A healthy source of protein such as meat, fish, eggs, beans or hummus
- A carbohydrate such as bread, pasta, rice or wraps
- A dairy item such as yoghurt or cheese
- Water only (milk is also provided in school)
Please be reminded that the following items should not be brought into school or on trips:
- Crisps
- Sweets or chocolate bars
- Fizzy or sugary drinks, including juice drinks such as Capri-Sun and Fruit Shoot
- Any nut products, including chocolate spreads containing nuts, as we are a nut-free school
Healthy alternatives could include:
- Fresh fruit or vegetable sticks
- Rice cakes or crackers
- Cheese cubes or yoghurts
- Wraps, pasta salads or sandwiches

Thank you for your continued support in helping us encourage healthy habits for all children. Further information can be found on the school website.
Green Week – Help Needed!
On Friday 5th June, we will be celebrating our annual Green Week by conducting an art project.
To do this, we would really appreciate your help! Could you please bring any recycled materials you no longer need into school with your child? This could be boxes, paper, fabric, egg pots, toilet roll holders, shoe boxes, milk cartons, yoghurt pots….anything that you think would be great to transform into something creative!
Writing Sample:
In writing this week, Year 2 has been writing setting descriptions, comparing Queen Victoria’s palace to the countryside of Cornwall. The children focused on using a range of adjectives to create descriptive sentences, and prepositions to describe the location of nouns within the palace. Take a look at Freyja’s outstanding description of the palace…
Nestled in Cornwall, there is an enchanted palace which is perfect for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and their 9 children. Inside the palace, there is a delicate chandelier. Inside, there are also some beautiful, silk, expensive curtains. You can also see historical family portraits hanging from the ornate walls. In between them, there is a fireplace crackling with warmth. You will also see a towering bookcase.
Hackney RFC
We would like to thank Hackney RFC for sharing information about the fantastic opportunities available for children and young people within their rugby community.
Last weekend, one of our Year 4 pupils had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Isle of Wight Festival of Rugby (the UK’s largest youth rugby festival) alongside thousands of young players from across the country. Children representing Hackney RFC demonstrated wonderful teamwork, resilience, respect and sportsmanship throughout the event.
Rugby offers children many valuable life skills, including confidence, leadership, resilience and teamwork, all of which can positively support learning and wellbeing both in and out of school. Hackney RFC prides itself on providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all children, including opportunities to take part in non-contact rugby formats for those new to the sport.
The club welcomes boys and girls of all abilities and is particularly keen to encourage more girls to get involved in rugby. Children can attend two free taster sessions before joining, and financial support is available for families who may need it.
For more information, please visit Hackney RFC or contact the club directly via community@hackneyrfc.co.uk
Poetry Competition
Well done to all of the brilliant poets who performed their poems during Friday’s poetry finalists assembly: Andrea, Ariana, David, Aidan, Grace, Rosa-Lea, Sydney, River, Elisha and Connie. The poems were incredibly creative and performed exceptionally well.
A special congratulations to our winners this half term- Julia, Lucia and Hazeemat- for their outstanding poems about dogs and rainbows!
Keep your eyes peeled for the final writing competition of the academic year…
End of Day Safeguarding Reminder
A reminder that all parents and carers must remain in the playground during pick-up times and are not permitted to enter the school building. This is a key part of our safeguarding procedures and is essential to keeping all children safe.
Parents and carers may request to speak with their child’s teacher outside in the playground; however, this may not always be possible due to other commitments, such as staff training or scheduled meetings. In these cases, appointments should be arranged through the school office.
We appreciate your cooperation in supporting our safeguarding expectations and helping to ensure clear communication while maintaining a safe environment for all.
Reminder: Outstanding ParentPay Balances
We would like to remind all parents and carers to please check ParentPay to ensure any outstanding balances are cleared. We understand that the festive period can be a costly time for families, and therefore reflected this in our extended payment deadline of 31st January for this term’s Breakfast Club, After School Club, and Wraparound Care.
If anyone needs support with accessing ParentPay, please come to the school office and speak to Miss Nifa, who will be happy to help.
