Message From Miss Gladstone
Welcome back everyone to the Summer term at SJSJ. I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter break.
The Spring term was a huge success and we are all incredibly proud of the children, the efforts and the progress they have made. It was great to see so many parents and carers at parents’ evening, celebrating their children’s achievements.
We’re so lucky to have such a great community of amazing children, parents and carers here!
The Summer term is action packed with lots of new learning, trips and visits, SATs for our lovely Year 6 children and, of course, saying a sad farewell to them in July.
We hope their final term at SJSJ is as special as they are.
Parents Evening Feedback
Thank you to everyone who attended parents evening and completed the feedback forms – it is always greatly appreciated. We had 72 feedback forms in total and 100% of parents said their child/children feel happy at school which is an incredibly positive response. 100% of parents also said that the school is a welcoming and pleasant place to visit and that they’d recommend SJSJ to a friend! Thank you so much for your lovely feedback.
With regards to the suggestions we received, I am pleased to share the following updates:
– ‘Later finishing after school clubs to assist working parents’ – From September 2024, there will be an extension to the wrap-around care we provide and the option for parents to book after school provision until 5:50pm.Watch this space for more updates!
– ‘Collect more regular feedback from the children about school dinners’ – The SJSJ Government Pupil Group have been conducting surveys with all children about the current school menu and have presented the results back to the catering team. Our new summer menu will be shared with you shortly.
– ‘Weekly art lessons rather than Art Week’ – I am pleased to announce that from September 2024, Art and STEAM will be taught weekly rather than in blocks.
A few parents also commented that they would prefer a paper copy of the homework rather than accessing it via google classroom. As much as we appreciate that paper copies are more convenient, we are trying to be more sustainable as a school and reduce our carbon footprint in many ways. The cost of paper has also risen significantly and providing children with paper copies each week is not affordable. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Overall, we received such incredible feedback and it has been a pleasure to hear how positive everyone’s responses have been.
PTA Green Week
Building on from our work around sustainability, all children will be participating in our first ever ‘PTA Green Week’ next week which is incredibly exciting.
The children will be exploring different themes linked to sustainability, engaging in workshops which the PTA have paid for, and creating topic boards to share with the wider community on Friday. In addition to this, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week, the PTA will also be hosting plant sales so please show some support.
Thank you so much to the PTA, as well as Miss Gedney who is our sustainability lead, for all they have done to make this a huge success. I’m sure they will all be pleased to have some of their living spaces back after spending the past few months growing a wide range of plants and vegetables for us to purchase!
Green Team
This week, the Green Team have been incredibly excited, thinking ahead about our PTA Green Week next week. But we need your help!
As part of Green Week, Early Years will be combining their creative skills with recycling and reusing old materials. To do this, we would be incredibly grateful if any recycled materials could be brought in for Early Years to use. This could be:
- Bottle lids
- Boxes
- Bottles
- Cartons
- Toilet roll/ kitchen tubes
If you have any of these items that you no longer need, could you please bring them to the office by Tuesday 23rd April. Thank you very much!
Hackney Half Marathon
While some teachers were on the beach, jet setting or simply enjoying their restful Easter holidays, Mr Watson and Miss Gedney were gearing up for the last few weeks of half marathon training. It’s not been easy but as race day grows closer, the motivation to keep going is getting stronger!
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! We are completely blown away by the amount of donations we’ve had, it truly means the world to us that you would support us in this journey.
We are running in aid of our chosen charities Mind (Miss Gedney) Cancer Research UK (Mr Watson.)
If you would like to make a donation, this has been assigned to your child’s ParentPay account. Please note that any donation will be split between the two charities.
