Year 5 are excited to be back to school after the Easter holiday!
We have enjoyed reading the start of our new class text, Warrior Boy by Virginia Clay. It is a fiction novel about Ben, a boy from London, who travels to Kenya to meet his Maasai relatives in Kenya. On Monday, we role-played as Ben and his mum, performing our interpretation of what the characters would be thinking and feeling ahead of this adventure. On Tuesday, we researched the Maasai people of Kenya, noting interesting information about their way of life and culture. We will use this next week to write and digitally publish a non-fiction text about the Maasai people, which will be displayed on our classroom geography display.
In Wednesday’s grammar lesson, we used our new knowledge about the Maasai culture to write sentences for our information text. Our aim was to include relative pronouns (who, which, while, when, where, that). We used green and orange to identify the subject and verb in our main clauses, then used purple to add a relative clause, which provides extra information. We ensured we had a comma before our relative pronoun. We also experimented with changing the position of the relative and main clauses.
