27 Jun What’s Happening in Year 6 – Week 4
This week, Year 6 explored one of the most well-known stories from the Old Testament—the giving of the 10 Commandments and the story of the Golden Calf. We began by learning about the commandments themselves, using drawings and symbols to help us remember each one. After watching the story unfold, we put our memories to the test with a quiz that sparked some great discussion.
The highlight of the lesson was a thought-provoking debate around the statement: “The Israelites broke the rules, so should be punished.” The children practised their oracy skills brilliantly—listening carefully, building on each other’s ideas and offering some truly insightful and perceptive comments. Many reflected on justice, forgiveness, and the importance of second chances. Take a look at our comments below.
It was a fun and thoughtful session that showed just how deeply the children can think when given the chance to explore big ideas together.
