14 Nov What’s happening in Year 4 – Week 2
This week in Year 4, we explored the amazing country of Italy! We began by revisiting longitude and latitude, using fun actions to help us remember which lines go up and down or across. Using this knowledge, we discovered that Italy is in the Northern Hemisphere and on the eastern side of Europe. We then used Google Maps to zoom in and explore Italy’s famous cities, including Rome, Venice, Florence, and Milan, and noticed that the country is shaped like a boot surrounded by beautiful blue seas. The children created their own colourful maps of Italy, carefully labelling the main cities and decorating them with creativity and pride.
To finish, we investigated where Italy’s volcanoes are found, including the fiery Mount Etna and Mount Vesuvius. We were amazed to see how close these volcanoes are to some of the cities we had studied! The class showed fantastic curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the lesson, developing their geography skills and deepening their understanding of what makes Italy such an exciting country to explore.
