14 Nov What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 2
The children observed how clearly they could see a reflection depending on how much light was reflected from the light source. Even though the sky was cloudy, they were still able to see how light travelled through a tunnel in the forest. They used their understanding of how light travels in straight lines to sketch simple diagrams showing the direction of the light as it entered the tunnel and the points where it reflected inside.
The children also discovered that translucent materials allow some light to pass through and project colour. They enjoyed experimenting with these materials to create beautiful rainbow reflections on their diagrams.
To finish the session, the children used mirrors to create a mirror trail. They carefully changed the positions of their mirrors to produce a repeated image that looked as if it continued forever. The children were fascinated to see how light can be guided and reflected to create this effect.
Year 6 showed excellent scientific thinking and curiosity throughout the session.
