30 Jan PSHE At SJSJ
This term, Year 6 have begun the Heartstone Project as part of their PSHE learning. The project encourages children to reflect on their local community, identity and fairness, helping them to think deeply about the world around them.
This work links closely to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), particularly Article 12 – the right to have a voice and be listened to. Children are encouraged to share their thoughts, opinions and experiences in a safe and respectful way.
As part of the first lesson, children created mind maps to highlight what they feel is important about their community. They also produced drawings of local parks and schools, focusing on what they notice, value and sometimes overlook in familiar spaces. This activity supported observation, reflection and discussion, helping children to recognise both strengths and challenges within their local area.
The Heartstone Project supports children to become thoughtful, empathetic and active members of their community, with a strong focus on rights, respect and responsibility.
