13 Feb PSHE At SJSJ
This half term, Year 4 have been busy creating their very own “Potato People” as part of our PSHE learning. What started as a fun, hands-on activity quickly became a meaningful opportunity for children to explore identity, aspirations and the diverse range of careers available to them in the future.
Each child designed and decorated a potato to represent a job they might like to do when they grow up. From aspiring doctors and teachers to engineers, artists, athletes and entrepreneurs, the classroom was filled with creativity and ambition. The children carefully selected materials to reflect their chosen roles and proudly shared their ideas with their classmates.
Through this activity, we linked our learning to key PSHE themes, including understanding ourselves, recognising our strengths, setting goals and appreciating the importance of perseverance. The children discussed the skills and qualities needed for different careers, such as teamwork, resilience, kindness and determination. It was wonderful to hear them speak so confidently about their dreams and the steps they might take to achieve them.
The project also encouraged respect for the wide variety of jobs people do in our community and beyond. We emphasised that all careers are valuable and that everyone’s aspirations are important. The children showed great enthusiasm, imagination and thoughtfulness throughout.
We are incredibly proud of Year 4 for their creativity and the mature way they reflected on their futures. Their “Potato People” not only brightened our classroom but also sparked inspiring conversations about hopes, goals and believing in themselves.
