12 Sep What’s happening in Year 1 – Week 2
This week in Year 1, we were excited to be introduced to verbs! We began by learning what verbs are – action words that tell us what someone or something is doing. The children enjoyed identifying verbs in spoken and written sentences, and we were impressed by how quickly they picked up this new concept.
To help us understand verbs even more clearly, we took part in a range of fun and engaging activities. One of our favourites was acting out different verbs – from jumping and skipping to whispering and clapping – the classroom was full of energy and laughter!
We also practised writing verbs independently and began to use Colourful Semantics to help us build full sentences. This approach supports the children in understanding sentence structure by colour-coding different parts of a sentence. It was wonderful to see the children confidently creating their own sentences using verbs they had learnt.
The class have worked incredibly hard and shown great enthusiasm throughout the week. Why not ask your child to show you one of the actions we practised, or challenge them to spot verbs in a story you read together at home?
Well done, Year 1!
