26 Sep What’s happening in Year 1 – Week 4
This week in Science, the children in Year 1 explored seasonal weather patterns through observation, discussion, and performance. Our learning focus was Autumn, and the pupils investigated whether the weather is always the same during this season.
Using secondary sources, children researched and identified key features of weather in each season, with a particular focus on temperature, rainfall, and windiness. They practised using weather symbols and props, then presented their own Autumn-themed weather forecasts using Seesaw.
To support their understanding, pupils used oracy sentence stems such as: “I see ___ in Autumn weather” and “I know this weather pattern is from Autumn because…”.
As part of our inclusive provision, all learners engaged in a range of activities including role-play, visual supports, and adult-facilitated discussions. A short BBC weather video provided an engaging hook to start the lesson.
It was fantastic to see such confident and thoughtful forecasts. Ask your child: Which season does your weather forecast represent, and why? Keep an eye out on SeeSaw for your child’s forecast.
Well done to all our budding weather presenters!
