24 Oct What’s happening in Year 1 – Week 8
This month, we have been learning about and celebrating Black History Month. Our focus has been on migration and the incredible stories of people who have moved to Britain and helped shape our society.
We explored the journey of the Windrush Generation, learning about why they came to Britain, the challenges they faced, and the lasting impact they have had on our communities. The children had thoughtful discussions about discrimination and equality, reflecting on how everyone deserves to be treated fairly and with respect.
We also learned about John Blanke, a talented Black trumpeter who lived during the Tudor period and performed for King Henry VIII. His story helped us see how Black people have been part of British history for hundreds of years.
The children have shown great curiosity, empathy, and respect throughout our learning, and we are very proud of the thoughtful conversations they have had.
