06 Mar What’s happening in Year 4 – Week 2
In Year 4 this week, we explored the fascinating world of Viking religion and what the Vikings believed in. We learned that the Vikings were polytheistic, meaning they believed in many different gods and goddesses who helped them with different parts of life. We also discovered the idea of Valhalla, which was like their version of heaven. Vikings believed that brave warriors who died in battle would be taken there by Odin, and we discussed how this belief may have helped them feel courageous and fearless.
We also learned about three important Viking gods: Odin, Thor and Freyja. We explored how Odin was the wise leader of the gods, Thor protected people as the powerful god of thunder with his mighty hammer, and Freyja was linked to love and bravery in battle. To finish the lesson, we created posters explaining who these gods were and how they helped the Vikings, working creatively and sharing ideas with our partners.
