10 Oct What’s happening in Year 4 – Week 6
Our Year 4 children had an amazing trip to the Museum of London Docklands to learn more about what life was like for the Victorians who worked on the docks. The excitement was clear from the moment we arrived — the children were eager to explore and step back in time!
As we wandered through the galleries, the class was fascinated by the real artefacts on display. They were especially intrigued by the old tools and equipment used to wash clothes — from heavy washboards to wooden tubs and soap bars that smelled very different from what we use today! We also discovered the kinds of goods and treasures the dock workers would have unloaded from ships, such as sugar, tea, and exotic spices from around the world.
The children asked brilliant questions and loved imagining what it must have been like to live and work during Victorian times. It was a fun, hands-on learning experience that really brought our history topic to life — everyone left with smiles, stories, and a new appreciation for the hard work of Victorian dock workers.
