12 Dec What’s happening in Year 4 – Week 6
This year in Year 4, we travelled back in time to explore the thrilling story of Mount Vesuvius and the buried city of Pompeii! We began by locating the volcano on a map and discussing why volcanoes are such powerful and unpredictable natural features. We imagined what life was like in Pompeii before the eruption and how people living there had no clue that danger was hiding right beneath their feet.
We then watched an exciting video that brought the eruption of 79AD to life. We saw busy Roman streets suddenly covered by dark ash clouds, falling pumice stones and a massive explosion. Using everything we learned, we worked together to build a timeline of key events—from early warning signs like small earthquakes to the moment Pompeii vanished under ash. We were amazed to discover how archaeologists have uncovered this incredible story and how much we can still learn from what remains today.
