17 Oct What’s happening in Year 4 – Week 7
In Year 4, the children took part in a special Black History Month workshop all about the history of Dalston Market. They explored how the market has changed over time and learned about the diverse communities—especially those from the Caribbean and Africa—who helped shape its vibrant culture. The class discovered how Dalston became a lively hub for music, fashion, and food, and how it continues to celebrate different cultures today.
As part of the workshop, the children dressed up as market traders and pretended to sell traditional foods such as plantain, patties, yams, and spices. Through role play, they experienced what it might have been like to work in the market years ago, using teamwork, communication, and creativity. The session helped them appreciate the importance of community, culture, and heritage in shaping local history.
