12 Dec What’s happening in Year 5 – Week 6
This half term in STEAM, we have been researching, planning and making Christmas toys for our EYFS children to play with. We started by looking at our brief and noted down our design criteria: Christmas themed, including two Christmas characters and having a moving mechanism.
Throughout our STEAM topic we have learnt what a mechanism is and discussed the best mechanism to make our moving toy. After some research we decided we would use cams, as cams turn reciprocating motion into linear motion. We researched the science behind how cams work and different variations of cams. We then researched how much the project would cost and ordered our part. You can see some examples of our wonderful designs. Next week we will complete our projects by adding our cams to create a moving toy.
