06 Mar What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 2
To celebrate World Book Day, Year 6 stepped into the magical world of Hansel and Gretel. The children took part in an exciting hot-seating interview, where two children acted as Hansel and Gretel while the rest of their group were interviewers and presenters, asking questions about their journey through the forest and their encounter with the witch’s gingerbread house.
Through thoughtful questioning, the children explored what the forest looked, sounded and felt like, as well as what they noticed about the mysterious house made of sweets. This oracy activity helped the class gather rich vocabulary and sensory details to support their writing.
Using these ideas, the children went on to write atmospheric setting descriptions of the dark forest and the witch’s enchanted house, carefully using expanded noun phrases, figurative language and a range of clauses to bring the setting vividly to life.
