What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 4

This week, Year 6 designed their alarms for their D&T projects, which are tsunami alarms that link to their geography key question: Is a Tsunami just a huge wave?

First, they discussed the differences between a series and a parallel circuit, and the benefits and disadvantages of using each. They also looked over their design briefs carefully to ensure their designs were suitable, effective and aesthetically pleasing.

They discussed how the alarms needed to be loud and also bright to be able to warn a vast number of people. Using their prior knowledge from their research lesson, they chose which circuit would be best suited for their alarms and used their knowledge of scientific symbols to draw the suitable circuit.
