27 Mar What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 5
This week in Year 6, children explored the theme of Diverse Britain, learning about how immigration has shaped our country. They studied the experiences of the Windrush generation and reflected on the important contributions they made, as well as the challenges they faced.
Our learning focused on Notting Hill, where Caribbean communities built a strong sense of identity and belonging. Children were particularly interested in the Mangrove Restaurant, which became a powerful symbol of community and resistance.
We also learned about the Mangrove Nine Trial, where activists stood up against injustice and helped challenge racism in Britain. This learning supported children in understanding the importance of equality, fairness, and using their voices to stand up for what is right.
