24 Apr What’s happening in Year 3 – Week 2
This week in art, the children in Year 3 explored the work of Henry Moore, focusing on his unique style of abstract, flowing sculptures and the way he represented them in human form. They discussed his use of shape, space and form, noticing how many of his sculptures include curved lines and hollow sections.
Inspired by his work, the children designed their own contemporary sculptures, carefully thinking about the shapes and forms they wanted to include. They were encouraged to be creative and experimental, drawing on Moore’s style while developing their own ideas.
The children also began to develop their clay skills. They learnt how to knead clay to make it soft and workable, roll it into even lengths, and use the coiling technique to build and join shapes. They practised these techniques with increasing control, showing care and patience when shaping their pieces.
