08 May What’s happening in Year 5 – Week 4
In our latest writing cycle, Year 5 have been working towards writing a narrative based on our class text, Warrior Boy. Our grammar focus for our writing was to include direct speech. We learned that inverted commas are used to tell the reader when someone is speaking and how to include a reporting clause to tell us how it was said, and also to replace said in our writing. Lastly, we learned to add stage directions to tell the reader what our speaker was doing as they spoke.
We spent our immersion lesson collectively working on character description for all the people Ben would meet, including Trevor, the safari tour guide and the Maasai leader. We also delved into some setting description to describe the landscape of the Maasai Mara and we used show me, don’t tell me description to describe how Ben was feeling throughout the ordeal.
