24 May What’s happening in Year 5 – Week 6
It is Art Week!
We have been creating contemporary sculptures, inspired by our focus artist Damien Hirst. Hirst is a British artist and one of the Young British Artists of the 1990s, well-known for his modern sculptures, and he is thought to be one of the richest British artists in history.
We studied his works The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Minds of Someone Living (1991), Mother and Child (Divided) (1993) and For the Love of God (2007). Inspired by his 2007 piece, we sculpted skulls out of paper mache and decorated them with gem embellishments.
We developed our fine motor skills, scrunching paper into the desired forms, pushing indents into the form to create eye sockets, and moulding brow and nose details out of the paper mache.
