09 Jun What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 1
This half term in Science, Year 6 are continuing to explore inheritance and evolution. They have already learnt about fossils and inheritance of physical features, so this week we moved on to discover how animals have adapted to suit the habitats that they occupy. To begin with, the children worked together to create a definition for habitat and environment; it is important that they can tell the difference between the two to ensure that they can easily identify specific features that allow animals to thrive in their homes. The children then sorted the characteristics of some familiar animals and used these to explain how they have adapted, for example, fish have adapted to living underwater by using their gills to breathe instead of having lungs.
