05 May What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 3
This week, Year 6 began their new geography unit by carrying out some fieldwork in the local area. The children thought carefully about what it means to be a ‘geographer’ and how they could apply their geography skills to make observations and collect data from a walk in Hackney. Using Digimap, the class planned a route, which they would follow and used their prior knowledge of the area to make some predictions about what they might see.
The children then worked in groups to create surveys – some children collected information on the different use of buildings in Hackney; whilst others looked at the modes of transport that were used. In the following lesson, the children developed their map skills by creating simple versions of a map to show what they had observed in the local area.
