27 May What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 6
In the Year 6 humanities lessons this week, we carried out research on Inuit culture, as part of our geography topic on The Arctic. We found out ways in which these communities survive the harsh conditions of the Arctic tundra. We then worked in groups of 3 to carry out interviews, playing the role of people from The Inuit community.
We came up with interview questions to ask such as: Do Inuit children go to school, how do you hunt for food, how do you make your clothes and why do you use igloos?
We then researched the answers to these questions and used our oracy skills to present our findings and perform our interviews to the class.

Jemimah’s mum came into Year 6 to discuss her experience of moving from Nigeria to England in 2012. We prepared questions to ask her about her experience, as part of our learning about immigration. She told us the similarities and differences between the UK and Nigeria and what she likes about living in Hackney.
