15 Dec What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 7
To bring our humanities topic on Indonesia and Tsunamis to a close, we explored the impact of the well-known Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. We used our prior knowledge on how tsunamis are formed to help us understand how the disruption landed itself on the shores of Indonesia. As a class, we sorted responses into two categories: immediate responses and secondary responses. Immediate responses are things that have to be done imminently to ensure that people are safe and well. Secondary responses are the longer-term things that are put in place to help in the future. We discovered that many of the secondary responses to the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004 are still in place now, which means that they have been helping to rebuild communities for almost 20 years!
Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed expanding their location knowledge in our Geography lessons this half term and look forward to revisiting it when we take a deep dive into The Arctic later on this year.
