What’s happening in Reception – Week 3

This week, Reception have been taking part in an Ogden Trust Science activity. Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about places in the world and particularly focusing on the beach, seas and oceans. We began by reading ‘My Ocean is Blue’ by Darren Lebeuf, which is a little girl’s poetic exploration of the ocean. Then, we used our sense of touch to explore different things that we can feel at the beach, like the smooth and shiny shells or the hot and rough sand. Finally, we used our scientific knowledge of forces to comment on what happened inside our own sensory ocean bottles – we found that the sand was heavier than the water, which made it sink to the bottom of the bottle, just like it does in the ocean!
