21 Oct Year 6, Week 7
Year 6 have got stuck into their Black History Month learning this week. In art, they have absolutely loved researching and producing designs in the style of Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare. Have a look at the images of their sketch books, where the class carried out artist research and analysed what they loved about Yinka’s design. The class commented on the use of bold, primary colours in his work and how his patterns makes them feel. Please do look out for year 6’s final art designs, they will be on display in the amphitheatre from next week.
In humanities, the children have been learning about The British Empire and Britain’s involvement in The Transatlantic Slave Trade. Using sources of evidence, the class found out about the positive and negative impact the empire had on native people in the colonies and discussed reasons why The Transatlantic Slave Trade took place. Have a look at their beautifully presented work in their humanities books.
