11 Mar Spanish
In their Spanish lessons, the children at St John St James learn how to express their ideas and thoughts in Spanish, whilst learning about and fostering their curiosity of Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Miss Lawrence leads Spanish, through motivating and exciting lessons, which focus on developing communicative skills and a passion for learning a foreign language. Have a look at the excellent work that Miss Lawrence and our wonderful pupils are doing in their Spanish lessons!
Miss Lawrence, with the help of her excellent Spanish Ambassadors from each class, produces floor books, in which children have recorded their learning for each topic and which showcase the progression of childrens’ knowledge across Key Stage Two. QR codes are displayed, which open up to show the children using their oracy skills, in order to devlop their confidence, spontaneity and fluency in Spanish. The beautifully-presented floor books show the creativity behind each of the activities the children partipate in, exemplified in this activity where children described a fictitious monster! All children have the opportunity to develop their written communication in Spanish and the floorbooks also evidence how much the children enjoy their creative writing tasks, where they show can write for different pursoses with new grammatical concepts.
In Year 6, children learn how to conjugate verbs, which supports them in referring to different subject matters with increasing fluency and which supports them in constructing more developed sentences. It was wonderful to see how the children now record their self assessments and peer assessments in Spanish, showcasing the excellent progress they are making.
Miss Lawrence works extremely hard to develop our pupils’ breadth of vocabulary and ability to communicate in Spanish. The children are always excited for their lessons and often leave singing songs in Spanish throughout the coridoors- a sure sign they have enjoyed themselves!
A huge ¡Bien hecho! to all our students and the wonderful Miss Lawrence.
