Spanish Day at SJSJ
Across the school today, the children took part in a variety of activities to celebrate Spanish Day!
Our Spanish Ambassadors, with the help of a few others, held a storytime session to start the day. The children in Nursery and Reception listened to the story of Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell, whilst Year 1 and Year 2 listened to one of their favourites, Aliens Love Underpants by Claire Freedman. It was a brilliant opportunity for the Spanish Ambassadors to take lead and showcase their learning in Spanish, whilst the younger children thoroughly enjoyed their stories.
In Year 3 and Year 4, the children worked together to consolidate their prior unit of learning, La Comida. They also worked with a familiar story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. After recapping what they already knew, the children prepared props and practised retelling parts of the story in groups, before working as a class to retell the story from beginning to end.
In Year 5 and Year 6, the children worked independently to research Spanish speaking countries worldwide and present their findings in creative ways. They discovered that there are 21 Spanish speaking countries across the globe, with many of our children having links to lots of them.
