16 May What’s happening in Reception – Week 4
This week, Reception began to learn about their new topic: Mini-beasts. The continuous provision has been set up with lots of activities that have allowed the children to explore different varieties of mini-beasts and the habitats that they like to live in. In the classroom, the children explored mini-beasts in a soil treasure hunt – they used tweezers to uncover the creatures, had a go at drawing them and then used some non-fiction texts to find out about them. Outside, the children used the sandpit to make their own minibeast habitats and experimented with different sand textures by adding varied amounts of water. As well as this, the children began to read their new class text ‘Yucky Worms’ by Vivian French, where they discovered what earthworms like to eat, where they like to live and lots of other fun facts about them!
