07 Feb What’s happening in Reception – Week 5
This week, Reception visited Hackney City Farm to support their topic this half term – animals. Before visiting the farm, the children thought carefully about the types of animals that they might see on a farm and the kinds of habitats that they like to live in. We used a story called ‘On The Farm’, written by Campbell Books and Illustrated by Axel Scheffler, to help us identify typical farmyard animals. In the writing area this week, we have even been designing our very own farms, so it was lovely for the children to see some aspects of their drawings brought to life.
At Hackney City Farm, we saw lots of goats – some were adults that liked to be brushed and stroked, whilst the others out in the field were all goat kids and only about 18 months old! We also saw some very woolly sheep, a few donkeys and lots of chickens and ducks that were enjoying the chance to roam around the courtyard at the farm.
