17 May What’s happening in Year 4 – Week 5
The science topic for Year 4 is sound and their big question is why do different musical instruments make different sounds? Today, year 4 investigated how they could soundproof the classroom by finding efficient sound insulators.
This was done by using string telephones, as they experimented with different materials such as cotton wool, cardboard, foil and cling film, by placing the material inside the cup to test whether it made a difference to the sound received at the other end of the string telephone.
They first made a prediction based on the material, investigated with their partner and came to a conclusion as a class. Year 4 concluded that foil and cotton wool were efficient insulators that could be used to soundproof the classroom.
