08 Sep What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 1
This week in art, Year 6 have been working incredibly hard on creating self-portraits, inspired by the works of Austrian painter, Gustav Klimt. The children began by developing their art history knowledge and spent some time researching our key artist and exploring the art movement that he was part of – the Vienna Art Nouveau.
The children then began to use their observational drawing skills to sketch out their own portrait, focusing on using different techniques such as shading, cross hatching and shading to create fine details on their portraits. In the final stages, they used the primary colours red and yellow to create various shades of orange, which were used to decorate their background and clothes across their shoulders. The children still have a few final touches to go, but they are all very proud of their artwork and cannot wait to see the final pieces on display next week!
