What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 2

In light of Refugee Week, Year 6 visited Hackney Museum to take part in a suitcase stories exhibition about individuals and their families who moved to Hackney to seek safety. The children used their prior knowledge to discuss their understanding of ‘what a refugee is’ and ‘why people might seek refugee’ in a different place.

After exploring the artefacts in the cases and discovering the stories behind each individual, the children then had the opportunity to meet Linh. Linh and her family are a part of the exhibition and sought refuge in Hackney after war broke out in Vietnam. The children had the opportunity to ask lots of questions and find out about how Linh’s life had been affected by the move to Hackney.

Refugee Week will be celebrated across the nation next week, beginning on Monday 17th June 2024.
