06 May What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 3
In writing this week, Year 6 have been creating their own polar kingdoms and working on conjuring up contrasting moods in their writing, through their language choices. Through analysing the writing of Abi Elphinstone, the author of our key text “Sky Song,” they have seen the power of ambitious, figurative language. They have created contrasting moods through describing the winter and summer months in their polar kingdom, creating a joyful, happy mood for the summer and an air of mystery in the winter. Have a look at Ellie’s contrast between her summer and winter descriptions. She has carefully thought about what can be heard in order to fully immerse her reader into her magical kingdom.
“As the winter nights return, whispers of fear taunt the land. The wind, screaming in agony, awakes the whole land and battles with the snow giants.”
“As the doors of summer unlock, the children cut the sound of silence like a knight and his sword. The sun, blazing the land with its head, glides in the sky. The summer is the best season: darkness remains dormant and the skies remain clear.”
