10 Mar What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 3
This week, Year 6 have been learning about ways to keep themselves healthy, in both science and PSHE lessons. The children explored the 5 sections of an ‘eat well’ plate and thought carefully about how their diet is reflected in each food group. They then went on to research the different food groups and find out about the purposes of each one.
The class also explored the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. According to the British Heart Foundation, regular exercise can reduce your risk of heart and other circulatory diseases by up to 35%! They also claim that regular exercise supports brain function as your body produces endorphins when exercising; these make you feel positive and therefore puts you in a good space to learn new things!
The children made pledges for the future about how they seek to ensure that they live a healthy life – here is what some of them came up with:
“I will make sure that I eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day to keep myself healthy.” – Samira
“I will continue to go on morning runs with my Dad to ensure that my body feels positive and ready to learn.” – Noah
“I will make sure that I swap some of my sweet treats for fruits and vegetables, because they are much better for me.” – Jakub
“I will keep a food planner, that will help me plan and track my food so that I can ensure I make healthier choices.” – Tianah
